Fair Housing
This morning I attended a Fair Housing Seminar as part of my post-licensing education. What I learned is that it is scary to be a realtor today. You have to watch everything that you say. I know the laws were set up to protect people from being discriminated against and I totally agree with that. However- when I can be charged with discrimination if I happen to forget to offer someone a soda when I offered someone yesterday one - that is hard to swallow. We almost have to be robots - and say the exact same thing to each person no matter what their personalities are or ours are. All I can say is - I will be extra cautious about how I even say Hello to people and how I handle myself. The monetary fines are tremendous. It is hard enough today to sell houses - the last thing I want to do is to be fined a huge amount! Thank goodness for continued education to remind us the feds are watching! We all need to treat others as we want to be treated - if we all do that - we can only hope that we will be okay! |
