Underrage Drinking, College Colleges in Virginia are now hiring their local police departments to cruise the campus looking for kids who have been drinking. It is all a money making scheme. Lets see the county makes money by charging the kids court fees $500-, the insurance companies make money by raising rates even if the kids were not driving they lose their license for 6 months and then have to get SR22 insurance - $2000 The schools get money by requiring mandatory classes be taken $150-. The local alcohol awareness people make money by requiring courses be taken as well - $200. Community service is required and the cost is per hour - 8 hours = $75. The local attorney if you hire one wants $750. You may say this will deter the kids. I am all for nailing drunk drivers- but we all drank in college - if a kid can go to war- go to college alone and be responsible - he is gonna have a beer at his fraternity. My son was walking in his dorm on a Friday night - 1 am- stopped by a cop who smelled alcohol on him- handcuffed- locked up in a jail 25 minutes away. They could have warned him - helped him or writen him up. Small town cops have nothing better to do . You pay these schools $20,000 a year and you get this. It is all about money!
